Enjoying Your Small Outdoor Space in Coastal Style: Space-Saving Solutions

There’s nothing like spending time outside, soaking up the sun, enjoying the view, and breathing in the fresh air. Whether you have an apartment balcony, a small deck, a cozy patio, or a porch, your outdoor space can become a perfect coastal retreat.

However, small spaces can sometimes feel limiting. But don’t worry – with a few clever ideas and space-saving outdoor furniture you can make the most of your small outdoor area.

    Define Your Space’s Purpose

When dealing with a small outdoor space, the first step is to define its primary use. Since space is limited, it’s crucial to focus on the main activity you want to enjoy outside. Whether it’s sunbathing, dining, working, or just relaxing, knowing what you want will help you choose the right furniture and accessories.

    Sunbathing Outdoor Furniture Essentials

If your priority is soaking up the sun, here are some great space-saving outdoor furniture :

    Sling Chairs and Wood Footstools

Sling chairs are a fantastic option for small spaces because they are comfortable and easy to fold away when not in use. You can adjust the reclining position to a full lay-flat option and take a nap. Pair them with a compact wood footstool for added relaxation. Though a wood footstool is designed for an Adirondack chair, it can be used with a sling chair too (I use my planter as a footrest, because that’s all the space I have). Throw in a lumbar pillow for extra comfort and style. For a coastal vibe, choose pillows in blue, yellow, or peach with stripes (a coastal must), solids, or florals.

    Bed Trays and Small Trays

If you don’t have enough space for a side table, use a bed breakfast tray or a riser to hold a cool drink or a snack while you lounge. A sling chair is not tall, and a tray is all you need. This simple solution keeps your essentials within reach without taking up much space.

Adirondack Chair with Retractable Footrest and Cup Holders

Consider an Adirondack chair with a retractable footrest and built-in cup holders. With this all-in-one solution, you don’t need a side table. These chairs provide comfort with a built-in footrest and space for your drink. Add a cute throw pillow to enhance the cozy coastal feel.

    Hammock with Space-Saving Steel Stand

If you have the space and enjoy laying down, a hammock with a steel stand is a fantastic way to relax and enjoy the breeze. This option doesn’t require drilling into concrete walls or siding, making it perfect for rentals. Plus, the steel stand can be easily moved around to suit your needs.

    Dining and Working Outdoors

If dining or working outside is your goal but you don’t have enough space for a full dining set, consider this space-saving outdoor dining furniture:

Folding Tables That Attach to the Railing

Folding tables that attach to the railing are an excellent solution for small spaces. These tables function like shelves, saving space while providing a sturdy surface for meals or laptops. You can eat or work outside, enjoying the view. They are easy to assemble and can be folded away when not in use, freeing up space.

Space-Saving Outdoor Table and Chair Sets

Look for table and chair sets where the chairs tuck neatly under the table when not in use. These space-saving outdoor furniture sets are designed to save space and are perfect for small balconies or patios. They provide a functional dining or working area without taking up too much room. Opt for a set in light, coastal colors to keep the space feeling open and airy.

Avoid: Bistro dining table and chairs folding sets (those that the table and chairs have “scissor” legs). They are uncomfortable. The chairs don’t fit well under the table because the legs clash, and the chair’s back doesn’t offer comfortable support.

    Putting it All Together

By defining your space’s purpose and selecting the right outdoor furniture, you can create a functional and stylish coastal retreat, no matter how small your outdoor area may be.

I hope that with these space-saving outdoor furniture solutions, you’ll be able to enjoy the outdoors comfortably and beautifully.

In this article, we’ll explore three distinct themes, each capturing a different version coastal design, with everything you need to style the console table:

    • Coastal Chic
    • Modern Coastal
    • Coastal Country or Coastal Farmhouse

So, let’s dive in and discover how to elevate your coastal decor with these stunning console table styling ideas.

    1. Coastal Chic Console Table Idea

Coastal chic decor is a timeless favorite that effortlessly blends classic beauty with a fresh coastal feel. This style embodies the serene allure of coastal living, combining a white palette with subtle touches of gold to create an ambiance that’s both elegant and inviting.

If you’re drawn to the idea of infusing your living space with coastal chic charm, then this console table idea is tailor-made for you.

    Items used:

Elegant white console table with drawers: Let’s start with the console table itself. If you’re using it in the entryway, choose a table with drawers. It’s perfect to drop your sunglasses, keys and other items when you get home. This console table is very elegant and light.

A pair of ceramic White Table Lamps: Then add two ceramic white lamps with a touch of gold, one on each side of your console table. If you don’t have plugs near the table, replace the bulb with these rechargeable light bulbs.

A stack of white faux books: Next, we’ve got a stack of white books. But here’s the twist – they’re not just books; they’re clever storage boxes that add some height, more storage and a touch of sophistication.

Faux Flowers in a clear glass vase: On top of these faux books, place a clear vase with lifelike faux calla lilies, for example, that adds a bit of nature to the mix and doesn’t need maintenance.

A white wooden box and Coastal Decor: A small white box (if it’s discontinued, here’s an alternative) keeps your keys and coins tidy. And to make things even more interesting, we’ve included a delightful fish sculpture. It’s coastal, right?

A classy Golden Mirror: A stylish rectangular gold frame mirror graces the wall above the console table, completing the coastal chic look. You can replace the mirror with one large coastal picture or gallery wall in a golden frame, just ensure that the chosen artwork or composition is larger than half the length of the console but not exceeding 2/3 of it.

Three Baskets: Under the console table, add three coastal blue and white rope baskets to store beach towels and other beach gear.

Make sure the objects fit your console table. You can use only one table lamp if you don’t have room for the pair.

    2. Modern Coastal Console Table

    Modern Coastal Console Table Idea

For our second console table idea, we’re embracing modern coastal vibes. This style is all about clean lines, a crisp white-and-blue palette, and simple yet striking decor. Let’s dive into the details of this fresh look.

    Items Used:

White and Blue Striped Table Lamps: We’ve chosen a pair of these lamps to place on either side of your console table. They bring in that classic coastal color combo – white and blue. However, you can switch one out for a vase if you prefer.

A Wood Riser (or White Variation): Elevate your decor with a wooden riser. We’ve gone for a darker wood to create contrast, but you can opt for the white version if it suits your taste better.

Ceramic Fish Sculpture: This white and blue ceramic fish sculpture adds a playful touch of the ocean to your setup. Its clean lines fit perfectly with the modern coastal theme and evokes the mediterranean vibe.

Electric Wax Melter: Here’s a functional and aesthetic addition. This melter can also burn scented oils, setting a relaxed coastal ambiance with fragrances like sea breeze or salty air.

White Textured Ceramic Vase: This vase resembles coral, but you can choose any other white, polished ceramic vase that matches the style. It’s an ideal piece to bring coastal textures into your design.

White and Blue Abstract Paintings: Adorn the wall above your console table with a pair of abstract paintings. They evoke the calming colors of the ocean and add a modern touch. If you prefer a mirror choose one with white frame, like this

White Rope Baskets: Under your console table, you’ll find three white rope baskets. These are perfect for storing beach towels, keeping your space organized and beach-ready.

  • Coastal Chic on the Wall Above the Sofa

Your living room is the heart of your home, and the wall above the sofa is its canvas. This space serves as the focal point of the room, drawing the eyes and attention of both residents and guests alike while creating a frame for the sofa.

In coastal home decor, this space offers a fantastic opportunity to infuse your room with the serene and relaxed vibes of the seaside. Whether you’re enjoying the ocean breeze from the Hamptons or from your coastal cottage, here’s how to make the most of this prime decorating real estate.

    1. How and Where to Layout Decor Above the Sofa

Before deciding what to hang on the wall above the sofa (even if you already have an idea), let’s talk about canvas area, layouts, measurements and all that stuff. How and where to display decor above the sofa.

1.1. What Area of the Wall Above the Sofa Can you Fill?

Let’s define the canvas area, which refers to the entire wall space where you can arrange your decor.

The width of the wall canvas: To determine the width of the wall canvas, it should ideally be 2/3 of the width of your couch. You can calculate this by dividing the width of your sofa by 3 and then multiplying the result by 2. Alternatively, you can directly multiply the width of the sofa by 0.66 and round the number to the nearest whole

The height of the canvas area: The middle of the whole composition should be at 57” to 62” (150 cm) above the floor to stay at the eye level. The bottom edge of the composition should be between 8” to 10” (20-25 cm) above the sofa’s back.

The distance from the sofa: As already mentioned, the distance from the sofa to the canvas area is between 8” to 10” (20 to 25 cm). Too higher than that and the composition will look lost, disconnected. Too low will make it lose it’s space.

The center and middle of the wall area: With these measurements, you can now define the center and height of the composition by tracing diagonal lines from corner to corner (a-b; c-d).

Is it possible to hang the decor higher, closer to the ceiling? Yes, it can create a statement wall, but ensure it remains at least 8” to 10” (20-25 cm) below the ceiling and 8” to 10” (20-25 cm) above the sofa.

However, keep in mind that the closer the decor is to the ceiling, the lower the ceiling will appear

That means in small to medium size living rooms it may overwhelm the space and make the room look smaller. But it can work. Suppose you make a white framed gallery wall with just a small soft blue picture in the middle of a large white mat. You basically have a sort of wainscot white wall with small blue squares in the middle, right?

Can you go wider? Same as above. If you want to frame the sofa area with a statement wall then fill the sofa’s width and the wall height (with a space of 8”-10” (20-25 cm) from the sofa and the ceiling). But if the room is small, it may overwhelm it and make it look busy and smaller.

Remember that while these are guidelines, you have the freedom to play around with the measurements. Just avoid going too ‘out of bounds.

graphic with the wall above the sofa area to style

1.2. How to Layout Decor Above the Sofa and Create a Gallery Wall.

Now that you have identified the wall area to style, you can explore various combinations and decor pieces.

You can either place one large piece in the center, occupying the entire space or at least half of it. Alternatively, you can divide the area into 3 or 5 columns, or create 2 or 3 rows, such as 3 columns and 2 rows, to fashion a gallery wall or showcase multiple decor items.

When arranging multiple pieces, like in a gallery wall, maintain a distance of 2 to 3 inches (5 to 7 cm) between each piece.

For a clean coastal style, symmetry and cohesiveness work best, as the coastal aesthetic thrives on spacious and tranquil spaces. Therefore, it’s advisable to avoid trendy gallery walls with differing frame styles and cluttered layouts.

A helpful tip is to create a mock-up by cutting out paper in the same size as your frames or decor elements. Attach these paper cutouts to the wall area using masking tape or poster putty to visualize the overall look. This will allow you to make any necessary adjustments before finalizing your arrangement

    2. What to Hang Above the Sofa?

Now that you have determined the area and the layout to decor, it’s time to decide what items to hang above the sofa for a coastal style.

Coastal style encompasses a wide range of variations, spanning from rustic to sophisticated, modern to traditional, and everything in between. Therefore, your choice of decor should align with the specific coastal style you wish to evoke.

For rustic coastal styles, such as coastal farmhouse, coastal country, or rustic Hamptons, consider opting for weathered white or natural-colored wood frames, natural fiber elements, or bronze, iron, or brass nautical objects.

On the other hand, if you’re aiming for a more sophisticated coastal look, such as traditional Hamptons or coastal chic, you might lean towards polished white or brass frames, complemented by elegantly styled objects that contribute to a neat and refined ambiance.

    Hang Coastal Artwork

One of the most straightforward and visually stunning ways to adorn the wall above your sofa is with coastal-themed artwork. Consider the following options:

    • Seascape Paintings: Gorgeous depictions of waves crashing on the shore, serene beach scenes, or sailboats at sunset can transport you to the coast with just one glance.
    • Gallery Wall: Create a gallery of smaller coastal artworks. Mix and match beach-inspired paintings, prints, and photographs. To maintain cohesion, choose frames with similar styles or colors.
    • Nautical Charts: Framed nautical charts or maps of your favorite coastal destinations not only look fantastic but also add a personal touch to your decor.

    Personalized Coastal Gallery

Personalize your coastal gallery wall with a mix of your favorite coastal images instead:

    • Vacation Memories: Frame and hang photographs of your beach vacations or coastal adventures. These personal touches make your decor uniquely yours.
    • Artistic Arrangement: Arrange the frames in a visually appealing manner, mixing in artwork or coastal-themed quotes that resonate with your love for the sea.
    • Family Wall: Dedicate the wall above your sofa to family photos taken at the beach. Choose coordinating frames in white, gold or weathered wood to maintain a cohesive look.

    Reflect Coastal Beauty with Mirrors

Mirrors are a versatile and strategic choice for enhancing your coastal decor:

    • Reflect Light: Mirrors can brighten up your living space by reflecting natural light. Place a mirror above your sofa to amplify the sunlight streaming in through your windows. Either one large wall mirror, a gallery of small mirrors or one round mirror
    • Add Elegance: Use a decorative mirror with a coastal or nautical frame, such as weathered wood or driftwood, rope, or one that mimics a boat hatch. This adds a touch of elegance to your decor. It not only reflects light but also reflects your refined taste.

    Coastal Sculptures and Wall Decor

For an extra touch of coastal charm, consider adding sculptures or wall decor pieces:

    • Beachcomber’s Bounty: Display found treasures like driftwood, seashells, and sea glass in shadow boxes or frames for a unique and beachy wall collage.
    • Metal Wall Art: Choose metal sculptures or wall art pieces with a coastal theme, such as seagulls, starfish, or anchors.

    Timeless Beachy Clocks

A large decorative wall clock can be a focal point of your coastal decor:

    • Beach House Chic: Opt for a clock with a beachy or nautical design, like one with weathered wood, seashell accents, or a driftwood frame.
    • Functional Elegance: Besides its aesthetic appeal, a wall clock serves a practical purpose and helps you keep track of time in your relaxing coastal oasis.

    Wall Decals and Stencils

If you’re seeking an artistic and budget-friendly option, consider wall decals or stencils:

    • Ocean Murals: Adorn your wall with a stunning ocean mural. It’s like having a window to the sea right in your living room.
    • Stenciled Patterns: Stencils can create beautiful coastal patterns, from waves to seashells. Customize the colors to match your decor palette.

    Coastal Greenery and Botanical Prints

Bring a touch of nature to your coastal decor with botanical prints:

    • Botanical Prints: Framed botanical prints of coastal flora like seagrass, palm leaves, or beach roses add a touch of botanical beauty to your decor.

A Console Table Behind the Sofa

If you have space, add a thin console table behind the sofa. It serves both decorative and functional purposes. You can adorn the console table with coastal-themed decor, such as seashell-filled vases, beachy sculptures, or coastal artwork, adding depth and visual interest to the wall. Additionally, you can use the console table to display family photos, fresh flowers, or even a stylish table lamp, further enhancing the ambiance. You can then add one picture frame, mirror or gallery wall above it.

    3. Light Up the Wall Above the Sofa: Add Sconces

If you want to add both style and functionality, consider adding wall sconces to the sides of the composition or a gallery light above it. This will draw the eyes to the composition, adding ambient light and enhancing the focal point.

    Putting it All Together

Incorporating these creative ideas into the wall above your sofa will transform your living room into a coastal haven that radiates comfort and style. Whether you’re embracing the classic Hamptons look or a more relaxed beach cottage vibe, these decor options will help you create a space that feels like a coastal retreat every day. Dive into the charm of coastal chic and let your living room become a coastal masterpiece that tells your beachy story.

  • Coastal Living Room with Coastal Sofa Pillows

How to Arrange Coastal Sofa Pillows: Tips, Tricks, and Patterns

Creating a coastal-inspired ambiance in your home involves careful attention to detail, from choosing the right color palette to selecting the perfect decorative elements. One often underestimated aspect of coastal decor is the arrangement of sofa pillows. These seemingly small accessories can significantly impact the overall aesthetic and comfort of your living space.

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the art of arranging sofa pillows in a coastal home, taking into account different sofa sizes and how to mix patterns, with a special emphasis on incorporating the timeless allure of stripes.

Coastal Living Room and Coastal Sofa Pillows

The Basics of Coastal Pillow Arrangement

Before diving into specific arrangements, let’s establish the fundamental principles of arranging sofa pillows in a coastal home.

Coastal Throw Pillows Color Palette for White, Cream and Blue Couches

Begin by selecting a coastal color palette that resonates with your personal coastal style, matches the color palette chosen for the living room or a blue focal point and another that matches the color of the sofa. Coastal decor often embraces soft blues, crisp whites, sandy neutrals. These colors mimic the soothing hues of the sea, sky, and sandy shores, creating a serene coastal backdrop.

Throw Pillow Colors for a White Sofa: White and blue and maybe add a sandy tone if you have natural fibers and brass decor in the living room. You can choose very soft shades for a serene calm look, or more intense for a fresh vibe. A navy blue and white combination will create a nautical look, either modern or traditional, depending on the patterns chosen (classic, solids or geometric) and the rest of the decor.

Cream Sofa: Use a cream color that matches the couch as solids or as a background color and add light blues, ashy neutral blue-gray and off-white.

Blue Sofa: If you have a blue couch, use different blues, with white or cream as background or solids, depending on the rest of your decor.

    Pillow Styles

Incorporate a variety of pillow styles to add depth and visual interest to your sofa. Consider using square pillows, rectangular lumbar pillows, and bolster pillows. Each style serves a unique purpose in both aesthetics and comfort.

Mixing Pillow Patterns for a Coastal Vibe

Once you have your dominant colors, you can then choose the patterns. What patterns?
Stripes, Solids and another pattern that picks the colors of the main fabric.

Start with Stripes for Coastal Charm

It’s the coastal must-have. If there’s a pattern you want to use in a coastal home is stripes. Striped pillows evoke the breezy, nautical feel of coastal living. Start by choosing a striped pattern that you like that match the coastal colors already mentioned as a dominant pattern.

    Add Calmness with Solids

Balance the patterns with solid-colored pillows in the same color as the pattern, if these will be in the background, or a neutral that matches the sofa if these will be in front of the main pillows. You want the background pillows to stand out from the couch.

For a coastal cottage style choose textured fabrics like linen or burlap that evoke the feel of beachy sand and driftwood, for a more chic and classy look, choose softer fabrics.

    Add Rhythm With Another Pattern

Mix florals for a coastal cottage, coastal romantic; damasks, ropes, nautical and traditional patterns for a Hamptons look (read more about mixing patterns and choosing pattterns in a Hamptons style) and leafs, fishes and lines that evoke the sea for a relaxed coastal style.

Mixing only stripes: You can mix varying stripe widths and directions to keep the arrangement dynamic, just follow the next rule:

    Vary Sizes for Balance

Balance is crucial in pattern mixing. If you use patterns of the same scale it will overwhelm the space. Either large stripes with big florals or small stripes with small florals will create too much noise.

The trick is to mix patterns of different sizes. Large stripes with smaller flowers, large leafs with small stripes, large stripes or fully striped patterns with smaller stripes or more spaced and smaller stripes.

By pairing large-scale patterns with smaller ones, you keep things well-balanced.

Arranging Pillows for Different Sofa Sizes:

There are tested formulas for arranging pillows in different sofa sizes. You can play with it, but if you want to play safe, follow these rules:

Throw Pillow Arrangement for a Two-Seat or Small Sofa

For a two-seat sofa, symmetry is key. Begin with two square pillows of 24×24 or 22×22 placed symmetrically at each end of the sofa. These pillows serve as anchor points for your arrangement. They can be solid blue or have a larger stripes pattern

Then add two more pillows slightly smaller, 22×22 or 18×18 in a solid or another complimentary pattern placed in front of the anchor pillows. This adds textural contrast and visual interest.

Arranging Pillows for a Three-Seat or Larger Sofa

For a three-seat or larger sofa, repeat the process for a two love seat, and if you want, add a third smaller square pillow on each side as your foundation. These third pillows can either be a solid or another pattern that goes well with the rest of the combo.

Incorporate a lumbar pillow with a coastal-inspired pattern or texture in the middle of the arrangement. This pillow provides extra support and a stylish focal point.

Arranging Pillows for a Sectional Sofa

Sectional sofas offer flexibility in arranging pillows. Start by placing a square pillow in each corner of the sectional for a balanced foundation just like above (24×24 or 22×22). These will be the base. And as in the schemes above, these have the larger prints, or are in a solid color to create a background.

Layer smaller square pillows, just like above, with coastal patterns or textures in front of the pillows at both ends of the sofa. This layered approach adds depth and personality to the arrangement.

    Center Focus

In the center of the sectional, add a third smaller pilllow with a different pattern or solid color and position a larger lumbar pillow for comfort and symmetry.

    Pillow Styling Tips

    Squeeze the Inserts

To achieve plump, fluffy pillows, opt for slipcovers slightly smaller than your inserts. For example, fit a 24×24 insert into a 22×22 slipcover.

    Fluff and Shape

Regularly fluff and shape your pillows to maintain their plumpness and visual appeal. This simple step ensures your sofa always looks inviting.

    Seasonal Swaps

Embrace the versatility of pillow arrangements by swapping out pillows seasonally. For example, introduce breezy patterns in the summer and switch to cozy knits in the winter.

    Putting it All Together

Arranging sofa pillows in a coastal home is an art that can transform your living space into a serene and inviting oasis. How to Style a Coastal Entryway Table

Your entryway is the first impression of your home, and styling your entryway table with coastal elegance can set the tone for the entire living space. Coastal style, characterized by its soothing color palette of soft blues, crisp whites, and sandy tones, evokes the tranquility of the seaside. In this guide, we’ll delve into the art of styling your entryway table to capture the essence of coastal living. From decor elements to functionality and design principles, we’ll explore every aspect to help you create a welcoming and harmonious coastal entryway.

    1. Embrace the Coastal Color Palette

The coastal color palette is the heart of this decor style. Think soft blues reminiscent of the ocean, crisp whites like the foamy surf, and soothing sand tones found on the shore. Begin by selecting a neutral backdrop for your entryway, such as a light-colored wall or a soft beige paint.

    2. Choosing the Perfect Coastal Console Table Style

When it comes to styling your entryway table in a coastal theme, your first step is selecting the perfect console table style. This foundational piece of furniture sets the stage for the entire look and feel of your entryway. Coastal design offers several console table styles that can work beautifully:

    • Weathered and Reclaimed Wood: Opt for console tables crafted from weathered or reclaimed wood. These tables bring a sense of history and rustic charm to your entryway while aligning perfectly with coastal aesthetics.
    • White or Light-Colored Wood: Embrace the timeless elegance of white or light-colored wooden console tables. They evoke a breezy, beachy atmosphere and make your entryway feel instantly more inviting.
    • Glass and Metal: If you prefer a sleeker coastal look, glass-topped console tables with metal frames are an excellent choice. They add a touch of modern sophistication while still embracing the coastal color palette.

Once you’ve selected the right console table style, you can move on to decorating it with coastal flair. Let’s explore the elements and tips to make your coastal entryway table truly shine.

    2. Entryway Table Decor Elements for Coastal Flair

Now, let’s delve into the decor elements that can infuse your entryway table with coastal charm:

    • Table Lamps: Opt for table lamps with white, blue or sand tone ceramic or clear glass bases and white lampshades to complement the color scheme.
    • Vases: Glass vases filled with beachcombing finds like seashells and sand can serve as beautiful coastal-inspired accents.
    • Picture Frames: Display cherished beach vacation photos in frames with natural wood finishes or white or brass frames.
    • Bowls for Keys: Place a decorative bowl on the table’s surface for keys and other small essentials. Consider a sea-inspired design, like a coral or shell-shaped bowl.
    • Organizing Tray: A tray is not only decorative but also practical for corralling small decor items. Choose one with a beachy texture like woven seagrass, white wood or brass for a chic look.
    • Ocean-Inspired Sculptures: Add depth to your coastal theme with sculptures like coral replicas or driftwood pieces. These can serve as focal points.
    • Plants: Add some white flowers or greenery for a fresh, classy and natural touch.

    3. Functionality Meets Coastal Aesthetics

A coastal entryway table isn’t just about looks; it’s also about functionality:

    • Console with Drawers: If space allows, opt for an entryway table with drawers. This provides concealed storage for items you want to keep handy but out of sight, like mail and paperwork.
    • Baskets Underneath: Place baskets or bins beneath the table to store beach towels, flip-flops, or other beach essentials. This keeps clutter at bay while enhancing the coastal theme.
    • Decorative Boxes and Bowls: For smaller items, consider decorative boxes or bowls. These can house keys, coins, sunglasses, or other daily essentials.

    4. The Wall Above the Console Table

Don’t forget about the wall above your entryway table—it’s a blank canvas for adding more coastal allure. Here are some ideas for creating a harmonious look:

    • Mirror: Choose a mirror with a coastal frame (white, natural washed wood or brass). A mirror not only adds depth to the space but also allows you to quickly check your appearance as you head out the door.
    • Wall Art: Hang coastal-themed artwork or prints. Seascapes, beach scenes, or even abstract art in the coastal color palette can work wonders.
    • Wall Sconces: If your entryway has adequate wall space, consider adding wall sconces with shades that complement your coastal color scheme. They can provide soft, ambient lighting and enhance the overall aesthetic. Choose brass metal fixtures for a chic nautical look, black or bronze for a rustic coastal style.

    5. Entryway Table Styling Techniques for Coastal Elegance

To ensure your entryway table exudes coastal elegance, consider these styling techniques:

    • Rule of Three: Group decor items in threes for visual balance. For instance, place a lamp, a vase, and a framed photo in a pleasing arrangement.
    • Vary Heights and Textures: Achieve visual interest by mixing items of varying heights and textures. This creates a dynamic, layered look.
    • Symmetry: For a classic coastal feel, aim for symmetry. Place matching decor elements on either side of the table for a balanced appearance.
    • Focal Point: Create a focal point with a standout piece, like an eye-catching vase or a coastal sculpture. This draws the eye and adds character to the ensemble.

    Putting it All Together

By incorporating these elements and styling techniques, you can transform your entryway table into a coastal-inspired masterpiece. It’s not just a functional space but a welcoming introduction to your home, inviting guests to step into a world of seaside serenity every time they cross your threshold. So, let the coastal breeze guide your decor choices and embrace the tranquility of coastal living right from your entryway.

Secrets to a Perfect Coastal Breakfast Nook

A coastal breakfast nook offers a unique blend of relaxation, style, and functionality, bringing the tranquil charm of the coast into the heart of your home. Whether you’re sipping your morning coffee, enjoying a leisurely brunch, or sharing a meal with loved ones, a well-designed breakfast nook becomes an inviting haven.

In this guide, we’ll explore the elements that define a coastal breakfast nook, from furniture choices to storage solutions, helping you transform a simple space into a coastal retreat that welcomes each day with warmth and style.

    1. Defining the Coastal Breakfast Nook Experience

A breakfast nook is a cozy corner designated for enjoying meals in a relaxed setting.

When infused with coastal aesthetics, it becomes a charming space reminiscent of beachside cafes. Choose a spot near a window to allow natural light to flood in, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere. Incorporate light, airy coastal colors and natural textures to evoke the feeling of a coastal getaway.

sample of coastal colors: light blues, creams and dry green

    2. Choosing the Perfect Coastal Breakfast Nook Table

The centerpiece of your breakfast nook is undoubtedly the table.

Opt for a coastal-inspired table that reflects the laid-back spirit of beach living. Coastal breakfast nook tables come in various styles, such as round, oval, or rectangular, allowing you to pick one that suits your space. Consider materials like reclaimed wood or distressed finishes for a rustic beachy look that captures the essence of coastal charm; white polish finish for a more elegant classic coastal style.

    3. Seating Comfort and Style

Selecting the right seating is crucial to creating a comfortable and inviting breakfast nook.

Coastal-inspired seating often includes a combination of benches and chairs. A breakfast nook bench provides ample seating while saving space, and you can enhance its comfort with cushions that feature coastal patterns, like thin stripes, or colors.

Avoid benches with armrests. Unless the bench is fitted in a windowsill, it will be difficult to get in and out. Mix and match with coastal dining chairs to add character and depth to the space. Wood, bamboo or rattan chairs add a coastal vibe.

    4. Storage Solutions for a Clutter-Free Nook

Maximize the functionality of your breakfast nook by integrating clever storage solutions.

A breakfast nook with storage chest benches offers hidden storage beneath the seats, perfect for stowing away extra linens, tableware, or seasonal decorations. Avoid drawers and front doors, because you won’t have enough space to pull them out. The storage chest bench is the best option.

    5. Create a Coastal Breakfast Nook Table and Chairs Combo

Coordinate your breakfast nook table with complementary chairs to establish a cohesive look.

For a touch of coastal elegance, consider chairs with woven textures, such as rattan or wicker, and embrace colors that echo the sea and sky. Mixing and matching styles can create an eclectic coastal vibe that feels effortless and inviting.

    6. Adding Coastal Accents to The Nook

Enhance your breakfast nook with coastal accents that tie the space together.

Incorporate accessories like ocean-inspired artwork in brass, white or weathered wood. Add white or blue curtains or blinds, or bamboo shades. A simple centerpiece with beachcombing finds or a vase of fresh coastal blooms adds a touch of nature’s beauty, and white or blue flowers adds sophistication.

    7. Cushions and Coastal Pillows for Comfort and Style

As mentioned above, adding cushions and pillows not only provide comfort but also enhances the coastal vibe. Choose striped fabrics and mix them with florals for a rustic, cottage, romantic style or with nautical motifs like knots, ropes, anchors, compasses; or fleur-de-lys and traditional motifs for a coastal chic or traditional style. Then add solids to the mix to create space.

Outdoor washable and water resistant pillows are a great option for a kitchen breakfast nook and this brand – Hofdeco – has beautiful coastal patterns.

You can find more details about mixing coastal pillows and patterns here or here for a traditional coastal look.

    8. Small Spaces and Coastal Breakfast Nooks

Even if your space is limited, you can still create a charming coastal breakfast nook.

Opt for compact tables and benches that fit snugly into corners, utilizing every inch. Hanging mirrors can visually expand the space, while light colors and strategic lighting enhance the open feel.

    9. Adding Light to Your Coastal Breakfast Nook

To complement the daytime radiance, consider installing pendant lights or a chandelier above your breakfast nook table. Choose fixtures with coastal-inspired shapes. A brass, bronze or black lantern pendant ceiling light, or a woodbead chandelier. These light fixtures not only provide functional illumination but also become striking focal points that enhance the overall coastal aesthetic. Opt for warm, soft white bulbs to emulate the sun’s gentle glow and ensure a welcoming and serene environment.

  • How to Decorate a Coastal Pantry for a Breezy Cooking

A coastal pantry is more than just a storage space – it’s a place where the beauty of the sea meets practicality. With the right design and organization, you can transform your pantry into a serene retreat that reflects the coastal lifestyle.

In this guide, we’ll delve into the art of coastal pantry organization, exploring cabinet choices, layouts, shelving, and decor to achieve a truly refreshing and functional space where cooking is a breeze.

    1. Laying the Coastal Pantry Foundation: Furniture, Door and Shelving

    Choosing a Coastal Pantry Cabinet:

Selecting the right pantry cabinet is the foundation of creating a coastal-inspired storage haven. Opt for shaker-style cabinets in white or pale blue tones, evoking the calmness of ocean waves and beach hues. The cabinet’s front can feature simple and clean lines, reminiscent of coastal architecture, while the back offers an opportunity for creativity. You can either leave the back of the cabinet white for a pristine look, or paint it blue to add a pop of coastal color. Another option is to apply wallpaper with thin blue stripes, creating visual depth and texture that mimics the colors of the sea and sky.

    Pantry Shelving and Storage:

Install sturdy and adjustable shelving to accommodate items of various sizes. Consider open shelving for a breezy and inviting look, allowing you to showcase your neatly organized pantry items. To make the most of your space, opt for adjustable shelves that can be moved up or down to accommodate items of different heights. Incorporate deep shelves for larger items like appliances or bulk items, and add pull-out shelves for easy access to items stored in corners.

    Coastal-Inspired Pantry Door:

Enhance your pantry’s coastal allure by selecting a door design that complements the theme. Choose a white or blue hue for a clean and refreshing feel, or install a glass door to provide a tantalizing glimpse of your organized pantry, effectively showcasing its well-curated beauty.

    Pantry Layouts and Sections:

Divide your pantry into sections that promote efficient organization. Designate areas for canned goods, dry goods, snacks, baking supplies, and more. Utilize labeled containers to keep everything in its designated spot, ensuring that your pantry remains both functional and visually appealing. A well-structured layout not only allows for easy access but also helps maintain order, preventing items from becoming lost or forgotten.

    2. Coastal Pantry Storage and Organization

    Glass Jars and Coastal Labels:

Elevate your pantry’s aesthetic by using glass jars to store items like pasta, grains, and spices. The transparency of glass jars not only adds a touch of elegance but also makes it easy to identify contents at a glance. To infuse a coastal vibe, add blue labels or tags to the jars, creating a consistent and visually appealing display that captures the essence of the sea.

    Pantry Baskets and Containers:

Incorporate woven baskets and clear containers to keep loose items organized and easily accessible. Woven baskets, with their natural textures, resonate with coastal aesthetics, bringing a touch of beachside charm to your pantry. Clear containers, on the other hand, offer visibility for dry goods like flour and sugar, allowing you to monitor their levels and freshness.

    Pantry Door Storage:

Maximize your space by utilizing the back of your pantry door. Install spice racks, hooks, or over-the-door organizers to store smaller items and keep them within easy reach. This functional addition not only optimizes storage but also adds an element of practicality to your coastal pantry.

    3. Pantry Maintenance and Rotation:

Regularly assess your pantry’s contents to ensure items remain fresh and usable. Rotate items to use older items first, preventing waste and ensuring that your coastal pantry stays efficient. Maintaining a well-organized pantry ensures that your culinary endeavors are inspired by the serene coastal ambiance.

    4. Small Space Solutions:

For compact pantries, use tiered shelves or stackable bins to make the most of vertical space. Install pull-out drawers to maximize depth and increase storage capacity, allowing you to organize effectively even in smaller spaces. Embrace the challenge of a smaller pantry and turn it into a space-efficient coastal haven.

    5. Coastal Pantry Decor: Creating a Coastal Vibe

Embrace coastal textures and materials by incorporating woven textures, sea glass accents, and touches of natural wood. These elements harmonize with the coastal atmosphere and create a cohesive look, further enhancing the serenity of your pantry.
